Some more fun travel news! Right before I head to Texas for the Writing Barn’s Rainbow Weekend Intensive, I’ll be in New York City dropping in to the Teen Author Festival organized by David Levithan! Not speaking. Just watching. From the back. Just ferociously yearning, all the way in the back.
I’m super excited. The lineup of events looks great! I’m basically going to try to attend everything I can until I fly out to Texas on Thursday. Take a look at the events I’m gonna be attending and let me know if you want to meet up!
- NYCTAF Kickoff! @ The Strand, 828 Broadway. Sunday, 3/18 @ 8pm.
- Areas of Expertise: YA Writers on YA Writing @ Mulberry Street NYPL. Monday 3/19 @ 6pm
- The Complexity of Characters @ Little City Books, Hoboken. Tuesday 3/20 @ 7pm
- The Past Ten Years, The Next Ten Years @ 42nd St NYPL, Berger Forum. Thursday 3/21 @ 6pm
Full list of events can be found at: http://nyctaf.com/2018-schedule/
Who else is going? Who wants to deal with Shy Ryan as I rehearse casually clever questions for author panels but don’t end up asking them because the event ended 37 minutes ago and please, sir, it’s time to stand up and go home?
In all seriousness, I’m excited to hear all these amazing writers talk, but I’m also excited to see how these festivals work. I’ve been to like….two and a half book talks before, at Trident in Boston. They were great, and they got me all glow-eyed and inspired. I’m psyched at the possibility of one day being invited to talks like this and to be put in conversation with people who’s minds I admire.
But that’s all future talk. For now I’m wondering: what cute looks can I pull off? Is NOW the time to start wearing glasses? Will there be harsh overhead lighting?? What if I don’t properly blend my highlighter, and the light catches my carved cheekbone, and blinds an author in the middle of their rousing call to action??
Okay, no highlighter. Just chapstick.
Anyhow, reach out if your’e reading this and wanna say hello! I’ll be in NYC from Friday 3/16 to Thurday, 3/20. Also, a huge thank you to my friend Ryan, who’s putting me up for the duration of my stay in his very nice Harlem apartment, which is full of lovely dogs and sheet music. š š š
